Lip Care Tips for People with Braces
Apply lip balm more frequently
Braces can cause you to breathe through your mouth more, drying out your lips faster. You may also unconsciously lick or press your lips more often. Apply lip balm every 1-2 hours to counteract the increased drying.
Choose a non-sticky formula
Sticky or gloopy lip products can get caught on brackets and wires, creating a mess. Numbrrrz absorbs cleanly without leaving a tacky residue that interferes with braces hardware.
Protect your lips from bracket irritation
Braces brackets can rub against the inside of your lips, causing sores. While lip balm won't prevent this directly, keeping lips well-moisturized reduces cracking and makes irritated areas heal faster.
Apply before orthodontist appointments
Having your lips stretched and manipulated during adjustments is harsh. Apply a thick layer of lip balm before your appointment to provide a moisture barrier that reduces cracking during the visit.
Use orthodontic wax along with lip balm
Orthodontic wax covers sharp brackets while lip balm keeps the surrounding lip skin hydrated and supple. The combination provides both mechanical protection and moisture, reducing overall lip discomfort.
