Lip Care Tips for the Beach
Apply lip balm before heading to the beach
Create a protective barrier before you arrive. Beach conditions — sun, wind, salt, and sand — assault your lips from multiple angles simultaneously. Pre-application gives you a head start on protection.
Reapply every 1-2 hours and after swimming
Water, sweat, and toweling off all remove lip balm. Set a reminder to reapply regularly, and always apply a fresh layer after getting out of the water.
Bring your lip balm to the sand
Keep your lip balm in a shaded spot in your beach bag, not in direct sun where it can soften. Having it within reach means you'll actually reapply instead of putting it off.
Rinse salt water off your face promptly
Salt water draws moisture out of skin through osmosis. After swimming in the ocean, rinse your face with fresh water and immediately apply lip balm to replenish the moisture that salt water stripped away.
Don't forget about reflected UV
Water and sand both reflect UV radiation, significantly increasing your total UV exposure. Your lips receive UV from above and from reflection below, making protection even more important at the beach.
