Definition
Fatty acids with 6-12 carbon atoms that are more easily absorbed by the skin than longer-chain fatty acids. Coconut oil is rich in medium-chain fatty acids, particularly lauric acid (12 carbons), which is why it penetrates lip tissue quickly and provides rapid hydration. This is a key advantage over heavier oils like shea butter.
